Jesse's 4th Birthday

Up until this point we have never had a full on birthday party for Jesse, we have sent party goodies to school and we have had small things with family but I have never actually had a party for him, there is always something that comes up which leads to us not having something, this year I decided come hell or high water we would do something to mark the occasion.

My only problem is that I needed something that was simple and that would fit into our budget, this past month was also a whirlwind of chaos and I could not see myself baking and cooking through the night, I have done this before and I find it takes away my ability to just enjoy the time with my kids the next day, we also wouldn't be able to host it at our home due to lack of space and entertainment and the thought of a spur party just gave me anxiety because I don't like leaving the kids unattended during play there; I just don't feel safe so we end up following the kids like a tail for the whole party and no one enjoys themselves, neither the kids or us.

Baby Boy you are 4!!!!!

When I went to bed last night I went to bed knowing that you were going to wake up an entire year older... well almost if you count that you were only born just after 11pm, but non the less the feelings that I had were a mixture of pride and adoration as well as sadness because I just cannot fathom that the past 4 years have gone by in what seems like a flash.

I remember your birth like it was yesterday I woke up at 39.1 weeks and resigned myself to the fact that you weren't coming at 39 weeks as I originally thought and predicted, that you would be coming on your due date via c section and that at least you were given the opportunity to choose your birth date within the scope of pentameters allowed to me by our doctor, oh boy was I wrong =)

I felt so calm and at ease and after dropping your brothers off I sat myself down in front of the tv with a jar of nutella and started watching Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton), I was perplexed I will admit as the day before I had been hit with a flurry and spent the day running around doing grocery shopping and anything else I felt had to be done before your birth, I really felt that you were coming soon, and then as I sat watching the pain in my lower back began and as the hours went on the pain radiated down my back and legs and just wouldn't go away, I brushed it off and fetched your brothers and we all sat down for dinner, but the pain persisted, your dad insisted that something was up but I brushed it aside and carried on until after 9 when I could no longer walk through the pain and he decided enough was enough and he rang the hospital and your nana, I was still insistent that all was fine so much so that when your nana fetched me I insisted that your father should stay behind with your brothers, it was only when we hit the hospital the rain coming down around me that I felt my first proper contraction and thought oh dam this may be it.

The nurses hooked up various machines and within half an hour I was being prepped for surgery as according to the monitors my contractions were 5 min apart, your nana had to race home to fetch your dad and thankfully he made it just as the theater doors were closing.

We joked around, the mood was calm and then you were there... but you were silent and I remember turning my neck to check what was wrong, my heart fell and you were silent for what seemed like forever... and then you cried out and the tears fell with relief, I would find out later when watching the video footage that you had come out blue and not breathing you had an apgar score of 3 and then 4, they whisked you off without me knowing that something was wrong and in the end you spent 4 days in nicu even though you were full term and a good 3.2kg.

You fought from the start and you are still a fighter, I cannot begin to explain the joy you brought into our home and lives, I knew as I held you for the first time that you completed us as a family.

Over the past four year you have brought so much joy... and mischief and I could not imagine our lives without you.

You are so clever and funny and full of a wild spirit that we cherish, I cannot wait to see where you go in life my baby because I know that your path will full to the brim with adventure and possibilities.

Happy birthday my baby boy, Jesse.

2 Years of Monkey Madness

Sitting here this evening, it feels like it was just yesterday but it was 2 years ago about this time that my back pain that had escalated from about 2 pm that afternoon had persisted through a warm bath and my constant denial to the point where my hubby took it upon his self to call the labor ward and they told us to come through.

Epic Mom Fail

So I am feeling a bit like a failure this evening, this week just didn't go as I envisioned.

Jesse is turning 2 tomorrow and today was supposed to have been his party at creche I had the cake and party goodies all planned out everything was going to be perfect and then the creche owner went and closed the creche letting us know on Monday and said I must just rearrange everything for Wednesday baring in mind I only got paid yesterday and baring in mind I had discussed the party with her at the end of last week with no mention of the creche closing, the teachers also weren't aware, so ya that was fail no 1 because the cake couldn't be made on time and I couldn't get everything I needed to as I hadn't been paid, we did mange to pull something small together and Jesse's teachers went and got him a huge cupcake and candle so he had a ball but I was just really cheesed as I had taken leave for today specifically to be there and so my mil could be there, I think it was incredibly selfish but apparently I am in the wrong because it was on a notice that was taken down months ago already and most of the things on said notice have changed several times and like I said I did discuss it with the owner last week but ya I was in the wrong....

That aside after searching everywhere me managed to find the gift we wanted for Jess at the price we could afford and because I was in such a rush whilst buying it I just grabbed a roll of wrapping I liked and paid , only this evening whilst wrapping did I realize the wrapping wasn't near big enough so guess what Jesse's gift had to be wrapped in... the only other thing I could find at this hour and that was pink tissue paper... failure number 2 oh and then I ran out of tape and had to scrounge up some ribbon.... not my finest mom moment, I know Jesse wont care but I do so not feeling at my mommy best this evening.

We are just having a small cake and tea tomorrow with the cake I ordered (O will post pics for sure), and I'm sure Jesse is going to love it as it is Curious George his absolute favorite, hopefully that makes up for everything else.....

Loghan's pizza making party

So Loghan's birthday has come and gone and his party was a great success albeit a small party this year due to finances it was really great.

We celebrated with a morning trip to the toy store, then a trip to the movies, we saw minions (my first movie in two years) and then we met up with family and friends at the new pizza place in Parklands called Enchanted.

It's family run and still new and getting off the ground but we all really had a great time, the employees were so friendly and the food and over all vibe were great. They even have Banting options!

The kids got to make their own pizzas from scratch and really had a ball, I highly recommend Enchanted for birthdays or even general visits it really was worth every penny and the owners are very acoomodating and helpful when it comes to party decor and arrangements, we will definitely be going there again in the future!
