Nanny, Day Mom or Creche (Part 2- A Day Mom)

If you haven't read part 1 of this 3 part series you can read it here.

In this series I discuss the pros and cons of choosing between having a Nanny, Day Mom or Creche for your child, as I said in part one this is from a personal standpoint as I have had experience with all 3, I hope that this will be of some help to moms struggling to make the choice, at the end of the day please remember that only you can make this choice for your child and what works for one family may not work for another....

When Gabriel was born we decided a day mom was what was best for him and we decided to send him to a lady who had worked for Loghan’s previous crèche before it changed ownership, she was an older lady and it would just be Gabriel and one other child which I was very happy with.

Pros:

-          It was cheaper than a crèche

-          Your child receives individual attention but still has peer interaction

-          You can delegate what you don’t or do want with a bit more wiggle room than a creche

-          Your child can still get sick and build up an immunity against the germs but will more than likely not get as sick as in a crèche environment

-          A day mom is more likely to be willing to keep a sick child than a crèche so you would not have to take off work (not very ill I’m talking a cold or such)

-          Your child is not at home so you can still be sick at home or take leave without your child if you want to
-          If your child is allergy prone there is no chance of them coming into contact with what they are allergic to by accident or by way of another child.

-          Day moms usually have a better structure as far as learning goes in place sometimes they have trained in childcare or just for the fact that they are catering to more than one child.

Cons:

-          If the day mom is ill you have a problem

-          The social interaction may not be enough it depends on your child

-          Your child may need more educational stimulation again this is dependent on the day mom

-          If you have a sick child who isn’t attended to by the parents it can create a vicious cycle of your child constantly getting ill

Unfortunately we had to take Gabriel away from the day mom in the end it wasn’t about her in the least but rather that unfortunately the other mom would not take her child to the doctor and often would not pack things for the child so all too often Gabriel ended up sick I would take him to the doctor and he would be sick again shortly after because the other child was still sick, I also ended up providing nappies wipes and porridge etc on many occasions and we just decided it was time for him to go to crèche.
