A day without shoes

This morning the boys attended school without shoes not because they don’t have on the contrary they are fortunate enough to own more than one pair of shoes unlike many of South Africa’s children and even adults.

Every day many children walk through the cold, the rain and the heat to school or elsewhere with nothing to protect their feet from these harsh conditions simply because they cannot afford to have even one pair of shoes.

For the second year in a row our school took up this initiative, a day in which your child attends school barefoot or in socks and goes through the day as one of those children would so they would get just a small glimpse as well as an appreciation for the fact that they are very fortunate to have what so many do not.

I know I personally take this day to once again drive it home how lucky and fortunate the boys are to have a roof over their heads, food in their tummy's and to be able to attend school and have clothes etc whilst so many others do not.

The kids are also encouraged to donate at least one pair of shoes for children or adults which will be taken and distributed to those in need.

I think this is a wonderful initiative and I hope our school will continue with this for many years to come.
