Raising a freethinker in a very judgemental world

You would think that in this day and age that judgment, narrow-mindedness and ignorance would be something of the past, that with the introduction of more religious and gender rights the world would be a more accepting place, one where you could raise your child to be who they want to be or who they truly are inside- Gay, strait, bisexual, transsexual, Christian, Pagan, Atheist, Jewish, Islamic, Goth, Jock the list goes on and on but the truth is that sadly the world today although seemingly more open is more judgmental than before the difference is that today people can no longer blame it on ignorance or lack of information, today we have all the information at our fingertips, the research the ability to speak with people from all walks of life all cultures all countries at tips of our fingertips, if you had an online friendship with someone for many years finally met them and for some ridiculous reason only then discovered that they were of a different race, culture, religion or sexual orientation would you walk away and dismiss the relationship, would it change who they are in your eyes… because it sure as anything doesn’t change who they are or have been in all the time you have known them, it is a part of them that you have come to know and love whether outwardly known or not.

I am trying to raise my children to be free thinkers to know that judgment has no place in this world if we are to coexist and live as one, peacefully working together for the better of us all and not just each other singularly, I want them to meet and love others for who they are no mater their religion, culture, gender, race or sexual orientation, but I have seen myself and have myself often been victimized or called names and bullied for being Pagan or being open about gender and sexual orientation equality and rights, as a teenager and an adult I have learnt to deal with these things, to walk away or to try to educate rather than fight, some people’s minds cannot be changed some people will always prefer to remain ignorant and happy within their own bubbles and closed minds, it makes me sad but that is not something I can change unless they want to change, I just don’t understand why some people are happy for me and others to be understanding of their beliefs etc but are not at least willing to attempt to understand where other people are coming from.

Children understandably find it far more difficult as they want to fit in with their peers and their peers or children in general are usually raised with the same thinking and beliefs as their parents, its why we have chosen to not raise the boys in a specific religious path it’s not our choice to make and we would rather provide them with all the information from all the paths and allow them to find their path on their own, Loghan will openly state that he is Christian and believes in God, some cannot understand why we are fine with that, as I said it is simply not our choice to make, if the boys came out and said they were gay so what it doesn’t change who they are or my love for them why would it there is nothing wrong with loving someone.

My hope and dream would be a world of understanding and respect for others by all, but for now all we can do as people is to keep educating and  keep trying…
