For those of you who don't know I actually envisioned and pursued a career ion fashion, I studied but unfortunately did not complete my studies at CPUT due to Gabriel's pregnancy and life circumstances but I have always since childhood had a love and appreciation for fashion even if I may not have the best dress sense myself.... its a curse.
Anyhoo as I was turning the pages of a fashion magazine last week I got thinking about the various fashion trends that have or do really irk me and I decided to share them, this is a personal opinion and one not shared by many of my friends and loved ones, some of them even rock these fashion items but for me they just rub me the wrong way and I will never understand what has made or does make it so popular.
LEGGINGS
Now don't get me wrong I love leggings I thing they are lovely and very fashionable however what irks me about leggings is that a large majority of our worlds population seems to think they are pants, they are not pants they are not made to be worn as pants they are made to be worn when stocks are to light in cold weather or when the short or top you plan on wearing is too short for stockings to be worn without anything they are not repeat with me now NOT pants, and that goes for people of all shapes and sizes I don't care if you are a tiny piece of person they are not pants end of story.
CROCS
Eek I remember when these first came out and I thought they were the ugliest things I had ever seen in my life, then my aunt got a pair and my Ouma... I have resigned myself to seeing various people around me wear them and apparently they are incredibly comfortable I am not saying they aren't but I cannot stand them bar them being on tiny little feet then they look marginally cute but on an adult it just makes me think of gardening.
HAREM PANTS
Now I have a few friends who wear these and pull it off it looks great on them, I just cannot understand what people see in them for the most part why would you want it to appear that your crotch is on the floor, also why not just wear a dress or pants or leggings under a skirt if you are cold I just don't see a point to them and think they are very unflattering on so many people they also remind me of one of my next points.
THE MAN BUN
My hubby has long hair I have no issue with men and long hair on many men lit looks amazing and suites them well but this tiny little bun on the top of the head no man, not attractive in my opinion.
RIPPED JEANS
Now I will admit to giving in and buying a pair of these a few years back, my hubby has many a pair and they are terrible, they look terrible on him, I actually passed on my own when someone turned around (of the older generation) and asked me why I would pay to look like a homeless person which is a terrible thing to say but the logic is there, I mean if you really wanted to you could just rip the jeans or distress them yourself the same with leggings or stockings, I think ripped stockings look really great when combined with an alternative look, jeans however I dont know they just dont do it for me.
BOXERS REVEALED
My brother and ex both went through this phase it just looks terrible and is what I referred to with the Harem pants except at least the Harem pants cover what no one else needs to see, I cannot understand how the pants even stay where they are in most cases or how the guy can actually walk. I seriously hope my monkeys never think this is a good idea, eek.
JELLY SHOES
Last but not least are these multicolored shoes that almost every teenage girl desired at one stage or another... I was not one of them, I just don't see how they can be comfortable or very good for your feet they also look so cheap and kitsch, you get the pump versions which are actually cute, I still wouldn't wear them for fear of discomfort or seat but they look a whole lot better.
If I offended anyone I apologize as I said there are many people in my life who would disagree with some of the items on this list and some who even in my opinion pull it off but this is a personal opinion and one I will remain to agree with.
What fashion items really irk you I would love to know?
